Carbon County court - guilty pleas

A Carbon County man admitted to a retail theft charge and a count involving having a juvenile with him at the time of the incident.

He was one of six defendants in pending criminal cases to enter a guilty plea on Tuesday in the county court before Judge Joseph J. Matika.Mahoning arrestTimothy Patrick Schaub, 37, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count each of retail theft and corruption of a minor.He was arrested on May 21 by Mahoning Township police at the Walmart store. He took items valued at over $200 and had a 17-year-old male with him at the time.Matika placed him on probation for a year on each count, running concurrently, and ordered he make restitution to Walmart for $107.34, a half-share with the juvenile responsible for the other half, and render 50 hours of community service.Other pleasOther defendants entering pleas included:Stephen Albert Georgia, 20, of Albrightsville, pleaded to one count of firearms not to be carried without a license. The charge was downgraded from a felony three to a misdemeanor one in a plea agreement with the district attorney’s office.He was arrested on Nov. 12 by Kidder Township police for an incident at Split Rock Galleria in Lake Harmony. Officers responded to a report of an employee with a weapon. On scene police found Georgia with a Taurus 9 mm pistol.He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to render 50 hours of community service.James Michael Ahern, 29, of Effort, pleaded to one count of disorderly conduct as a summary offense. In exchange for the plea much more serious charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance — heroin, criminal use of a communication facility, both felonies, and possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia were dropped.He was arrested on June 1 by state police at Hazleton in the area of 190 Decker Lane in Lehigh Township.Matika imposed a fine of $200. Ahern is currently an inmate in the county prison.Isaiah James Bosworth, 19, of Hanover Township, Luzerne County, pleaded to one count of corruption of a minor.He was arrested on Sept. 12 by state police at Lehighton in the area of Outlet Road at Hickory Run State Park, Route 534, in Kidder Township. He left a state forestry camp and took a juvenile with him.He was sentenced to time-served (21 days) to one year in jail and ordered to render 50 hours of community service.Jacqueline Brooke Heydt-Evans, 25, of Albrightsville, pleaded to one count of criminal conspiracy-retail theft.She was arrested on March 20, 2015, by Mahoning Township police at the Walmart store. She was previously placed in the county’s Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program but was revoked for violating conditions.She was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, render 50 hours of community service and stay out of Walmart. She is currently an inmate in the Monroe County prison on other charges.Jason Arocho, 34, of Bronx, New York, pleaded to one count of possession of an instrument of crime.He was arrested on Sept. 19 by state police at Fern Ridge following a vehicle stop along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township. He was a passenger in the vehicle in which marijuana was found and also about 46 counterfeit $100 bills.Sentencing was deferred.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
