Lehighton continues to gear up for its three-day Community Christmas Celebration to be heldFriday through Sunday.

Autumn Abelovsky, secretary of the borough's 150th Celebration Committee,said that as part of the event, both the upper and lower parks be filled with about 60 trees, 30 in each, along with a grand tree in the center of the park.From that point on, Abelovsky said the trees will remain illuminated throughout the month of December for residents and guests to view.Tree adoptions will be accepted for a $40 (minimum) donation. The number of trees for adoption will be limited to the electric access available.The trees will be delivered and set in staked stands throughout the borough's upper and newly refurbished lower parks on Thursday. All groups, individuals and businesses will have from Friday through Sundayto decorate their trees.The Lehighton 150 Celebration Committee will provide the trees, stands and electricity for the individual trees, though the decorations, lighting and an extension cord must be provided by the adopting group.Abelovsky said the trees will be supplied, with the central tree to be donated by Foothill Farm. The group is looking for local businesses, organizations, groups or families to adopt a holiday tree in the borough park, she said.Throughout that weekend, Abelovsky said the adopting groups will be encouraged to come to the park and decorate their trees.Forms to adopt a holiday tree can be found at the Lehighton Borough Municipal Building, or by calling Louise at 610-852-6281 for more information.The event will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday.Other events that weekend will include the Lehighton Downtown Initiative's annual Santa in the Park onFriday, where families can come out to the amphitheater to have the kids meet Santa and Mrs. Claus after they arrive on a Lehighton firetruck. All the children will receive a Christmas surprise.On Dec. 3, the Lehighton Band will hold its annual Christmas concert, which will take place at the Pfc. Clyde R. Houser Jr. Building (Lehighton Borough Annex). The concert is free to the public and will feature many familiar sounds of the season.Special performances by the Zion UCC Ecumenical Cantata, TNT Studio Dancers and the Pale Moon Players Carolers will also take place that weekend.
