In the center of Nesquehoning, a veterans memorial sits, honoring the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

In the corner of that memorial, just off Catawissa Street, stands a small Christmas tree.The tree, planted by the Nesquehoning Lions Club two years ago, stands for two things - community and remembrance of those in the military who never made it home.On Saturday evening, a number of residents, as well as Lions Club and Nesquehoning Historical Society members gathered at St. Patrick's Cemetery next to the memorial for the borough's annual Christmas tree lighting.Following the lighting, those in attendance sang Christmas carols at the memorial, while Meeds Memorial United Methodist Church offered hot chocolate and cookies.
