Weatherly swears in late councilman's wife to fill term

The wife of a late Weatherly Borough councilman has been appointed to fill his term.

Councilman Joseph D'Andrea, who passed away on Oct. 31. Council voted to swear in D'Andrea's wife, Theresa D'Andrea to fulfill the remaining of his term left on the seat.After being sworn in, newly appointed Councilwoman Theresa D'Andrea, thanked Mayor Tom Connors and the council for giving her the privilege and honor of serving out her late husband's term."I will try to do my best for the next 13 months," she said.Theresa D'Andrea was sworn in while in the presence of her grandson Joseph D'Andrea Jr. and her daughter Judy D'Andrea Fisher.Councilman Harold Farrow askedD'Andrea if she would act as a chaplain for the council by praying the invocation before the council meetings.He said her husband used to do it before,and he would like her to continue to do that when no clergy members attend the meetings.Connors said, "We all take comfort in having an invocation before we start the meeting, but we don't always have somebody to do it."D'Andrea replied that she would be honored.Connors asked council and the police chief if theywould put a decal saying "In God We Trust" on the back of the borough's two police cars, as he saw a picture of police cars with the national currency motto and thought it would be nice to have them locally, as seeing it made him feel good, and that he always prays for the police personnel serving.There was no objection from those present.Other businessThe borough manager's report advised residents that the borough will be using Swift Reach to contact all residents to inform them of snow bans.It will be available through the borough's website.Residents can register their phone number with the borough if they haven't done so already.Council reminded residentsto read over the regulations for the snow ban that will be sent with the December bills, and also be mindful to move their cars for snow of 2 inches or more.The borough office will be closedtodayand Mondayfor the Thanksgiving holiday. The December utility bills will be mailed late because of the holiday.Clothing collection continues at the shed in the park, and residents are reminded that the proceeds from the clothing collection will help offset the cost of the recycling program for electronics and containers. It will also help the maintenance of the park.Borough Manager Harold J. Pudliner Jr. thanked Cloverdale Farms for their continued generosity of giving the borough the Christmas trees for the downtown park as they have for Christmas in the Park when it was active. They've been donating trees for about 17 years.
