Carbon County is committed to keeping victims safe when inmates are released from its Nesquehoning facility.

Last week, the county prison board discussed the annual contract with the Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification system, which notifies victims when an inmate is moved, released or put on probation or work release.The cost of the annual contract is $2,451.03.Warden Timothy Fritz said that the program helps victims if they are signed up by sending either an automatic text, email or phone call whenever a person is transported within the system or is released from incarceration.The county has used the PA SAVIN system since 2008. It is a free service that allows victims to sign up to receive notifications as soon as the person who caused them harm is placed in prison.Before the program, Carbon County prison administration notified victims when an inmate was moved or released.
