Carbon County Commissioners took action on Wednesday morning to officially approve the 2017 preliminary budget that they outlined last week.

The board initially took action on the proposed $59.6 million spending plan last Thursday, which holds the property tax millage to 10.25, but a formality of advertising the budget meeting prior to the action was overlooked. That meant that the action taken last week was invalid.A meeting notice was published in the Times News on Saturday advertising the special meeting and the commissioners approved the preliminary budget without any changes.That means that a homeowner of a home assessed at $50,000 should again pay $512.50 in county real estate taxes next year as long as no changes are made between now and the formal adoption on Dec. 15.The proposed 2017 spending plan has three components: The operating fund, $42,715, 262 (up from $42,576,007 this year); capital projects, $14,144,274 (up from $509,086 this year); and special funds, $2,797,717 (up from $2,505,072 this year).Together, the funds would total $59,657,253 (up from $45,590,165 this year).
