Hundreds without power in Tamaqua

At least one downed tree has cut power to hundreds in Tamaqua as steady sleet and snow hit the area.

West Broad Street and a large portion of the South Ward lost power about 9:45 p.m. when a tree fell on wires on West Cottage Avenue in the general area of Kane Lumber Company, according to reports.

Lights flickered in other sections of the community, as well.

According to PPL, approximately 765 customers are part of the outage.

No time has been given on when power will be restored.

A handful are also out in Jim Thorpe and near Mountain Road in Lehigh County. Power is expected to be restored by midnight in those areas.
