Schuylkill crashes

• One person sustained a minor injury in a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 4:10 p.m. Wednesday along Mountain Road in Pine Grove Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Matthew A. Weikel, 39, of Valley View, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier eastbound at a high rate of speed when he was unable to maintain control of the vehicle as he attempted to negotiate a sharp right turn. The Cavalier traveled straight in the turn, onto the berm and into an embankment. The car traveled on the embankment for about 20 feet before striking a rock with the driver's side quarter panel. Impact with the rock caused the car to spin counterclockwise.After spinning, the right rear wheel dug into the road, causing it to come off. The car then slid backward into the westbound lane and back into an embankment along the berm where it came to rest partially in the westbound lane. Weikel was treated at the scene by Pine Grove ambulance personnel. His passenger, James J. Haynes, 27, of Shamokin, was not injured. Troopers said neither one was wearing a seat belt.Troopers cited Weikel for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.• One driver sustained a minor injury in a two-vehicle crash, involving a school bus, that occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday along Route 924 (Gold Star Highway), in Mahanoy Township, Schuylkill County, just south of Shenandoah.State police at Frackville said Myron Grabowsky, 75, of Shenandoah, was driving a 2017 Subaru Forester southbound and negotiating a slight right curve when he lost control. He traveled into the northbound lane and struck a 2015 Thomas Built school bus head-on. The bus was driven by Joseph A. Morris, 63, also of Shenandoah. After impact the Subaru struck a guide rail along the northbound lane. The school bus entered the southbound lanes and came to rest blocking both lanes of travel. There were no students on the school bus at the time of the crash, troopers said. Both vehicles sustained heavy front end damage and had to be towed.Grabowsky was injured and transported to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, by Shenandoah ambulance. Morris was not injured.Troopers cited Grabowsky for the crash.
