2 in drug roundup plead guilty to lesser charges
Two of 11 defendants in a drug roundup that was labeled "Operation 93 pipeline" entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court on Tuesday but to much lesser charges resulting in probation sentences.
Cynthia Ann Hippenstiel, 25, of Ranshaw, Northumberland County, and Robert Fox, 60, of Quakertown, Bucks County, entered pleas before Judge Steven R. Serfass. Both pleaded to one count each of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance-heroin in plea bargains with the Attorney General's office.Both were originally charged with corrupt organizations, criminal conspiracy - possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, criminal use of a communication facility among other charges. All were felony counts. The charges they pleaded to are misdemeanors.Both were placed on probation for a total of two years and ordered to get drug and alcohol evaluations, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, render a total of 100 hours of community service, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.Last week, Erik Feliz, 23, of Hazleton, was placed in the state Intermediate Punishment Program for two years by Serfass. The program is for defendants with addiction problems. A person spends about seven months in prison, a period of time in an intensive inpatient drug rehabilitation program and the final months in a halfway house.Feliz previously pleaded guilty to one count each of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and criminal conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance.The name of the operation was based on the fact that drugs would be purchased in Luzerne County and then brought back to Carbon for sale using Route 93.Other arrests included Matteo Puddu, Curtis Margle, Jason R. Will, David Allen Anthony Jr. and Brittany Michele Vincent, all of Carbon County; and Joshua Ynoe Mejia, Bradesky Santos Jr., Anthony Jordan Vega, all of Luzerne County. Puddu recently entered pleas to possession with intent to deliver and possession for his part in the operation and is awaiting sentencing.
