St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mahoning holds worship service at 9 a.m. Sunday, and Sunday school is at 10:15 a.m.Council meeting, 6:30 p.m. today.New member session will be 10
a.m.Nov. 12. Anyone interested in membership and anyone who wants an update in Lutheran identity is invited to attend this class.Congregational meeting will be Sundayfollowing worship service. Topics that will be discussed include the budget and voting in new council members.Church decorating for the Advent/Christmas season will be onNov. 20 after church. Since the Cub Scouts are having their special Sunday breakfast fundraiser immediately following worship, we can take some time to enjoy that meal with them before we start to decorate. There will be no Sunday school.Wreath making for the Advent/Christmas season will be at Yenser's Tree Farm at 1 p.m. Sundayto make wreaths.Food pantry item for November will be macaroni and cheese, and December will be soup. Boxes will be in the narthex.All For One Thanksgiving Worship Service will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 23 at Grace Lutheran Church in Lehighton. The service will include Holy Communion. Refreshments and fellowship will follow. An offering will be gathered. If you bring an offering envelope your offering will return to St. John's, loose plate money will go to support the ministry at Grace Lutheran and 10 percent will go to the food pantry at Trinity Lutheran Church. An offering of canned or boxed goods is also welcome. A combined choir will provide the anthem. The choir will assemble by 6:15 to practice before the service.Advent "Soup and Service" evenings.Soup dinner (served with bread and salad) will start at 6 p.m. The worship service will follow at 7 p.m. Even if you can't make it in time for dinner, you can still join us for worship.Soup and Service will be held on Wednesdays, Nov. 30, and Dec. 7, 14 and 21.Gift Bag Delivery. The adult Sunday school class will again be preparing and delivery holiday gift bags to our shut-ins. Tentatively the date isDec. 3. Meet at 9 a.m. to put the bags together and then head out to spread some holiday cheer. Pack a lunch. Third St., at 8:30 and 11 a.m. includes the Women of the ELCA "Thankoffering" observance. This is a time to show gratitude for God's blessings in the tradition of the Women of the ELCA community. The Rev. Nancy Moore presides. Coffeehouse fellowship is at 9:30 a.m.Sunday church school classes for students age 3 through grade six begin at 9:45 a.m. There will be no Sunday school classes Nov. 20 due to the annual congregational meeting."Scouting for Food" throughout Lehighton takes place Saturday. Boy Scouts collect nonperishable items throughout the community. The donations will benefit recipients at the Trinity Food Pantry.For those desiring to arrange a baptism, Moore will meet with parents with instructional information at 1 p.m. Nov. 20. For those desiring to seek membership at Trinity, Moore will share information at 1 p.m. Nov. 27.
