Lehighton man arrested after manhunt

A Lehighton man is in custody after allegedly taking off on foot from a traffic stop Thursday morning.

Christopher J. George, 37, of Lehighton, also allegedly brandished a BB gun while police were chasing him on foot about 1.8 miles from where police initially stopped his vehicle.George's license was suspended at the time, and he also had outstanding warrants for other offenses, police said.Police initially pulled over George's vehicle around 8:30 a.m. Thursday after he was seen driving erratically. He fled on foot after the officer who stopped him asked him to get out of the vehicle.Previously:Police from Mahoning Valley and other local agencies searched for a man who fled during a traffic stop. The man was described as being 5' 9" tall with curly dirty blonde hair. He was wearing grey sweatpants and no shoes.According to scanner reports, Mahoning Township stopped a white Chevrolet S-10 pickup along Hemlock Drive.After a brief conversation with the officer, the driver took off on foot entering a wooded area.Officers from Summit Hill, Lehighton, Jim Thorpe and State Police assisted in the search. A State Police helicopter was also requested to aid in the search.
