State police at Frackville reported investigating two crashes along Interstate 81 in Schuylkill county Monday and early today, both involving deer.

The crash Monday occurred at 3:50 a.m. in Mahanoy Township. Troopers said Hector M. Gonzalez, 24, of Hazleton, was driving a 2003 Honda Civic southbound in the left lane when he swerved to avoid a deer on the road. He lost control of the Civic which went onto the west berm and struck an embankment. After impact the car rolled over onto its driver's side and came to rest on the berm.Gonzalez was not injured but the Civic had to be towed from the scene.The second crash occurred at 12:49 a.m. todayalso in Mahanoy Township. Troopers said Osman Gomez, 32, of Bartonsville, Monroe County, was driving a 2008 Pontiac G6 northbound when a deer entered the road in front of him. Gomez's vehicle struck the deer causing his air bag to deploy.Gomez was not injured but the vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
