Honoring veterans

Tamaqua Masonic Lodge 238, Free and Accepted Masons, will honor all military veterans from the greater Tamaqua area onNov. 16.Festivities will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge, Route 54 and Shawn Avenue in Hometown.The evening will include a brief ceremony, presentation of pins to the veterans and refreshments.All veterans and their families and friends are welcome.Cake and coffee will be served.Reservations are strongly recommended to ensure there are enough pins and refreshments.For more information, or to respond, call 570-668-4532.College aidThe Tamaqua Area School District will sponsor a financial aid night onNov. 16 in the Tamaqua Area High School Library.The informational session will begin at 6 p.m. A representative from the regional office of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency will present information on completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid application. There will be a question-and-answer session and information on local scholarships will also be available.Students interested in pursuing any form of postsecondary education, and their parents, are welcome to attend.No preregistration is required. The session is open to the public.Board of HealthThe Tamaqua Board of Health held its November meeting at the Tamaqua Municipal Building with Earl Boettger, Rosemarie Noftz, Shirley Becker, health officer Judith Hadesty R.N. and health enforcement officer Ken Fenstermacher in attendance.Fenstermacher reported receiving and adjusting nine complaints: one leaking sewer; two animal waste; five for trash; and one building condemned as unfit for human habitation.There were no cases of reportable diseases in October.Tamaqua seniorsThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens met Nov. 3 with 54 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session.An inspirational reading "Things To be Thankful For" was offered by the chaplain. A moment of silence was held in memory of Gloria McHale.Norma Baker and Anna Mae Yushinsky were welcomed back after absences.The meeting included the celebration of September and October birthdays. Honorees included: Nellie Brennan, Buddy Feinanel, Norma Baker, Joann Garber, Rose Vallee, Ruthann Feane, Pat Regalis, Nora Schidy, Marlene Randig, Joyce Krell, Ken Nunnemacher and Alberta Woodring.The group is open to anyone 55 or older. Meetings are held at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church.
