Chestnuthill adds new bucket truck

Chestnuthill has a considerable fleet of trucks to take care of its more than 55 miles of township roads, parks and other township facilities. Every year the township budgets for repairs, replacements and additions depending on the needs and the condition of the existing vehicles.

One of the items that needed replacement under the 2016 budget was the 1987 Ford F-600 bucket truck. The 1987 truck was approaching 90,000 miles and has seen better days. The original plan was to purchase the truck during 2016 and finance it. But earlier this year the township refinanced its bonds and was able to save $214,858.79. As a result of the savings the township supervisors approved a motion to purchase the bucket truck outright. The township took delivery of the truck in October. The new truck is a Ford F-350 with an automatic transmission. The bucket has a 35-foot maximum working height. The truck was purchased from Mobile Lifts Inc. and cost $70,211.
