Carbon County employee honored at state conference

A Carbon County employee was recently honored for her outstanding services to the state juvenile justice system.

Crystal Smith, the county juvenile probation’s department clerk II, was honored last Thursday at the 2016 James E. Anderson Pennsylvania Conference on Juvenile Justice, held in Harrisburg. She was nominated by Joseph Greco, Carbon County Probation Officer II.She was accompanied to the conference by members of the juvenile probation office, as well as her husband, Jeff.Smith has worked in the Carbon County Juvenile Probation Office since 2002, when she began as a department clerk I.Her daily responsibilities included a wide array of clerical duties, including entering referrals, completing docketing on juvenile cases, doing statistical information that is required by the courts and state, tracking placement billing and more; as well as assisting probation officers in the administration of Carbon County’s community service work program.Smith supervised hundreds of community service projects through the program over the past 14 years; and has played an influential role in the establishment of several new community service work sites for juvenile offenders.She was promoted to her current position in 2006.In addition to her daily duties, Smith also attends juvenile court to ensure the accuracy of the orders.When not serving the Carbon County Juvenile Justice System, Smith serves her community as an active member of her local fire department, and works on fundraising projects for community projects and the county animal shelter.
