Celebrates 100 years

Ralph Gerber of New Ringgold celebrated his 100th birthday Nov. 4. He was born on the family farm on Zion’s Stone Church Road in 1916.

On Dec. 21, 1940, he married his sweetheart, Elda, at Zion’s Stone Church, where he continues to worship as a lifelong member.Ralph worked for the Reading Railroad from 1942 to 1943.He then continued work on the Lehigh-New England Railroad from 1944 to 1960.From 1961 until he retired in 1979 at the age of 62, he worked for M&M Amosite & Stone Quarry.Ralph enjoyed tending to a large garden, fruit trees and flower beds. He also enjoyed woodworking. He proudly made wooden crosses, shelves and mangers, and also created a wooden train for his first great-grandson.Today, Ralph enjoys quiet days in his home surrounded by his family, Elda, 97; and his two daughters, Janice, wife of Walter Rudy of Bridgeville, Delaware; and Rhea, wife of Gerald Steigerwalt of New Ringgold.Ralph and Elda have four grandchildren: Aaron, husband of Jennifer of Andreas; Audra, wife of Tyler Schlecht Jr. of New Ringgold; Alison, wife of Lance Lane of Delaware; and Michael, husband of Cheryl of Philadelphia.They have five great-grandchildren: Theron and Trenton Schlecht, Noah and Mikayah Steigerwalt, and Payton Lane.A family celebration was held on Saturday.
