History group in Lehighton to decorate tree

A group in Lehighton hopes to preserve the borough's rich history.

The Lehighton Area Historical Alliance has been revitalized and is up and running on the heels of the borough's recent 150th anniversary celebration. For its first project, the group will be placing a Christmas tree in the park to help support the 150th celebration and the holiday season. The theme is "Lehighton's family tree," in which they intend to decorate their tree with photos of those who made the borough what it is.The group is asking for copies of family member photos to make into ornaments. To have them ready for the borough's tree lighting ceremony in December, they will need them by Thanksgiving. The photos may either be taken to Kathy Long at the Lehighton Area Memorial Library, emailed to

lehightonheritage@gmail.com, or messaged to their Facebook page. The group meets at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Lehighton recreation center, 243 S. Eighth St.
