Former Pleasant Valley field hockey standout Melissa Russo was named the 2016 Colonial States Athletic Conference Player of the Year.

Russo, a junior at Gwynedd-Mercy, led the league during the regular season with 51 points, 22 goals, and six game-winning goals. She was ranked seventh nationally in Division III in goals per game (1.29) and recorded five hat tricks.Russo had four goals in a game against Marywood and reached the 100-point plateau this season.She was named to the CSAC First Team for the second straight season.Russo becomes the third player from Gwynedd Mercy to win Player of the Year honor.
