This coming Sunday the West End Food Pantry will be taking a bite out of hunger and stomping on a few grapes as well with its first Stomp Out Hunger 5K. The event will be taking place at the Blue Ridge Estate Vineyard and Winery in Saylorsburg.
The day will include a 5K race beginning at 11 a.m. and a 2.5K fun walk at noon. Every participant over 21 years of age will receive a commemorative T-shirt and wineglass. There will be water and wine stops along the way."The goal is to get the entire community together to put a spotlight on hunger," said West End Food Pantry director Karena Thek. "We have teamed up with many local organizations to show we care about our struggling neighbors."Thek is not expecting to make money on the event, but rather to raise awareness for the plight of those struggling with food issues."This event will allow us to walk/run for a good cause and enjoy a great day at the winery," Thek said. There will be a food truck and an ice cream truck, West End Ambulance, Blue Ridge Hook and Ladder and of course, wine tasting at the winery. The course will wind through the vineyard and the old carriage trail."The course is not fast, but it is beautiful and scenic," Thek said.Anyone interested still has time to register at runsignup.com/Race/Events/PA/Saylorsburg/StompOutHunger5kandFunWalk.
