Some dilapidated structures in Tamaqua may finally be coming down. Tamaqua Borough Manager Kevin Steigerwalt reported on the issue at Tuesday night's meeting of Tamaqua Borough Council.
Steigerwalt said the demolition project recently awarded for a fire damaged structure at 13-15 S. Lehigh St. has been reviewed and everything appears to be in order. He estimated the demolition will start in about two weeks. Another property slated for demolition, 216 Penn St., has been delayed due to questions related to the CDBG funding of the project.Director of Community Development Mary Linkevich said the county has advised that funding for the project has been approved. There is some question as to whether the county or borough should obtain bids for the project, but that should be resolved in the near future.
