Seven TN grid teams in District 11 playoffs

The Times News will feature seven teams in the District 11 playoffs this season.

The Marian Colts will represent the TN area in Class 1A against Tri-Valley on Friday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.The Colts (5-5) have dropped two-straight and have been outscored by a 40-7 margin during the stretch. These two foes met last year in the District 11 championship when Marian was victorious, 33-0.In 2A, second-seeded Palmerton (5-5) will host No. 3 seed Minersville (5-5) on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. The Miners' are coming in streaking, having won three-in-a-row, which includes a season-changing victory against Marian two weeks ago. The Bombers' are just as hot at Minersville, also having won three games in a row after a slow start to the season. Palmerton topped Northern Lehigh last week, 21-7.The top seed in Class 3A is Notre Dame of Greend Pond. The 3A games will kick off at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5. The Crusaders went 8-2 against all Colonial League opponents this year and will take on eighth-seeded Lehighton. The Indians (4-6) are a bit injury-ridden, and have dropped their last five contests.Fifth-seeded Jim Thorpe (6-4) will travel to No. 4 North Schuylkill (6-4) with a head of steam after defeating Tamaqua and Lehighton in two of the previous three weeks. The Spartans topped the Olympians 28-7 during the regular season. The "Red Swarm" was the area's statistical defensive leader this season, yielding only 203.4 yards per game to opponents.Tamaqua (5-5) earned the sixth seed and will square off with one of the Colonial League's surprise teams, Pen Argyl (7-3). Tamaqua enjoyed a quality win over Marian last week, 27-0. The Green Knights' most impressive victory came against top-seeded Notre Dame in Week 8.Northern Lehigh (4-6) earned the seventh seed in the Class 3A bracket and will travel to No. 2 Palisades. The Bulldogs finished the season by winning two of their final three games.Class 4A will kick off on Friday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. and the Times News area has no representatives. Allentown Central Catholic is the top seed.Whitehall earned the top seed in Class 5A, while that classification will play its first round game on Friday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.Pleasant Valley earned the No. 2 seed in 6A and will play No. 7 Easton on Friday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. The Bears (8-2) are coming off a 26-22 loss to Stroudsburg. Pleasant Valley led the TN area with a scoring average of 47.8 points per game. Easton (5-5) just squeaked out a 42-39 victory over Nazareth.Making an Eastern Football Conference appearance this season will be Northwestern.
