Police: Mahanoy City man had 89 bags of heroin

SHEPPTON - A Mahanoy City man was jailed Friday, charged by East Union Township police with having 89 bags of heroin in his possession. Dylan J. Clark, 20, of 507 W. Spruce St., was charged by Police Chief Thomas Rentschler with one felony count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance; one misdemeanor count each of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia; and a summary offense of driving while operating privileges are suspended or revoked. Clark was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker, Shenandoah, and committed to Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post $15,000 straight cash bail. The arrest was the result of a vehicle stop about 3:30 p.m. at Center and Market streets. Rentschler said he stopped a vehicle driven by Clark, knowing that the man had a suspended driver's license. After the vehicle came to a stop, Rentschler said, he could see Clark making mo vements in the car until he approached the driver's side window and told Clark to take his hands out of his pockets. Rentschler said he returned to his patrol vehicle to confirm Clark had a suspended license and, upon returning to the stopped vehicle, saw Clark making movements inside and ordered him to exit. Rentschler said he saw that Clark had a glass smoking bowl between his legs and also a cigarette pack in his shorts. Back at the township police station, Rentschler said, Clark was found to have a brown and orange glass smoking pipe with burnt residue and inside the cigarette pack, 89 glassine baggies marked "no pain" and "power grip" that field tested positive for heroin. After being read his rights, Rentschler said, Clark told him he was coming to Sheppton to trade the heroin for marijuana.
