New police officer takes oath in Lehigh Township

Officer Peterson Myrthil was sworn in by district magistrate Robert Hawk preceding the Oct. 25 supervisors' meeting in Lehigh Township.

Chief Scott Fogel gave some background about Myrthil before the ceremony.He was born in Haiti and came here at age 15 with his mother. He had learned English in Haiti. He earned an associate degree in biology but then had to tell his mother he was not interested in becoming a doctor.He earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. Myrthil joined the National Guard and served in Qatar.He became a naturalized citizen and completed a course at the Allentown Police Academy. His application at Lehigh Township followed.Family members attended the ceremony and were then invited to tour police headquarters.Shenite Palmer, his girlfriend, and uncle Jean-Claude Michel stood with him as he was sworn in by Hawk.Palmer then had the honor of pinning the badge to Myrthil's uniform.
