Combined Panther Valley, Marian reunion set
"We are PV!"
"Here we go Marian, here we go!"These are two very familiar chants if you are a graduate of either Panther Valley or Marian Catholic high schools. The two schools are typically seen as rivals when it comes to student spirit and sports. But a few graduates are hoping to "bury the hatchet" through an all-school reunion for both Marian and Panther Valley grads.Marie Dunn, one of the organizers of the reunion and a Panther Valley graduate, said the idea of a two-school reunion open to all former classes came about during a conversation with another Panther Valley graduate, Rick Dopira, during the St. Patrick's Day parade in Jim Thorpe."I come from a mixed marriage," Dunn said, noting that her husband, Matt, is a Marian graduate. "I think this would be a great way to reconnect with friends. We don't care if they graduated from Marian or Panther Valley."She, Dopira and friend Judy Midas decided to run with the idea to see where it would take them."We do see some resistance from some people yet, which I find surprising," Dunn said. "Some are still asking, why not only PV or only Marian."It's a good way to bring those people together again," she said, adding the reunions in general seem to be dying out. "We thought if we opened it up to everyone, maybe this is something we could run every five years."The all-class reunion will be held from noon to 8 p.m. May 28 at the Nesquehoning Hose Company No. 1. It will include a catered picnic and entertainment, as well as many stories from years gone by.The group has created an event page, "PV Marian Any Class Reunion," and group page, "PV Marian Class Reunion," on Facebook to spread the word.Reservations are currently being accepted. For complete details on where to send payment, Dunn said to check out their Facebook pages. They are also looking for sponsors to help cover costs."We have never done this before so we don't have a base," she said.Businesses and individuals looking to become a sponsor should visit the group's event page for complete details."Let's bury the rivalry and come out for a fun-filled day of memories," Dunn said.
