A Jim Thorpe teen learned the hard way how tough Pennsylvania’s drunken driving law is on Tuesday when he was sentenced to a year in jail on a driving under the influence charge.

Dale Fink, 19, was sentenced by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II, who noted it was Fink’s third conviction for DUI. Under state sentencing guidelines in DUI cases, the penalties increase with each conviction.Fink was arrested on Feb. 8, 2015, along Forest Inn Road in Lower Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton.A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.Fink told the court, “I’m not a bad kid. I went to college, got an associate degree. I’ve just got to address my drug problem, get it under control.”Nanovic also ordered Fink to pay a fine of $2,500, license suspended for 18 months, and must enter into a long-term treatment program.He was given credit for 90 days for an inpatient treatment program.He will begin the jail term at 10 a.m. on Monday and was granted immediate work-release privileges.
