Carbon County officials are making sure they are meeting state requirements with the county's transportation system.

On Thursday, the commissioners approved two actions regarding the Carbon County Community Transit Medical Assistance Transportation and Lynx programs.The first was an agreement with LANta as required by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare for transportation services under MATP from Oct. 1 through June 30, 2017, at a per trip rate of $38.29.Owen O'Neil, executive director of LANta, said that the action was because of new guidelines with the state Department of Human Services, but is something the county already has with the administrative contract with LANta.The second action was for the Title VI program guidelines for public transportation services in Carbon County, which are required by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and in compliance with the requirements of the Federal Transit Administration.O'Neil said that this action was never needed in the past because Carbon was considered a rural area, but as northeast Pennsylvania became a metro area, additional requirements in the Lynx program kicked in.The guidelines address delivering services in a nondiscriminatory manner.The commissioners thanked O'Neil and LANta for their expertise in this field and for the way they manage the Carbon County Community Transit system.CCCT serves approximately 60,000 riders annually through its MATP program and Lynx bus services and offers Carbon County residents public transportation within the county and to several points outside of the county, including Hazleton, Walnutport and the Lehigh Valley Mall in Lehigh County.Other businessThe commissioners approved the following items:• Reappoint Thomas Wildoner for a five-year term to the Parks and Recreation Commission. The appointment expires Dec. 31, 2021.• The revised bylaws and intergovernmental agreement for Carbon's participation in the Prison Inmate Medical Cost Containment program.• An amendment to the agreement with Zelenkofske Axelrod LLC for financial consulting services for 2016. The amendment increases the not-to-exceed fee from $78,750 to $90,000, due to additional services in relation to various projects.• Court appointment of Daniel P. Jones of Pipersville, law clerk, court administration, effective Oct. 24.
