Four defendants entered guilty pleas before Judge Steven R. Serfass in Carbon County court on Monday morning.
Wayne Edward Christ, 52, of Coplay, Lehigh County, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on March 30 along Iron Street in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Serfass sentenced him to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, license suspended for a year and render 25 hours of community service.He will begin the jail term at 7 p.m. Friday and serve two days and then on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. and serve the final day.John Aloysius Doyle III, 38, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on March 12 along Second Street in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed a 0.14 BAC.Sentencing was deferred so Doyle could apply for placement in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program - house arrest.Malik S. Hannibal,32, of Bloomsburg, Columbia County, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on Nov. 11, 2013, along the turnpike in Kidder Township by state police at the Pocono barracks. He refused a blood test.Serfass sentenced him to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, and license suspended for a year. He was given credit for five days already spent in jail on the charge and paroled.Hannibal is currently an inmate in the Clinton County prison on other charges.Adam George Reich,28, of Weissport, pleaded to two summary motor vehicle code violations with a DUI charge dropped in a plea bargain. He was arrested on June 22, 2015, along Bridge Street in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton.Serfass imposed a total of $50 in fines plus costs.Those sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
