12 charged in attack near Dieruff High School
District Attorney Jim Martin has announced that three adults and nine juveniles, all of whom are pupils at Dieruff High School, have been charged in relation to an attack on two students, which occurred on Tuesday at Kearney and Washington streets in Allentown.
The charges for all individuals include aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit to aggravated assault, both felonies of the first degree; and riot, a felony of the third degree.Two juveniles have also been charged with possession of a firearm by a minor, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a felony of the second degree.It is likely that these two juveniles, who are currently detained in Morgantown, Berks County, will be charged as adults next week.On Tuesday at approximately 2:10 p.m., Allentown police responded to a report of an assault in progress. Upon arrival, they found two juvenile victims.The police investigation revealed the victims had been confronted by a group of more than 50 individuals.Approximately, 20 members of that group allegedly assaulted the two students.Two individuals wielded firearms during the assaults and used the firearms to strike both victims in the head. The two juvenile victims suffered injuries and were taken by ambulance to local hospitals for head trauma.The Allentown Police Department arrested six juveniles and one adult blocks from the melee within hours of the assault. The six juveniles were all detained by Lehigh County Probation pending their adjudication hearings.The adult, Joushten Rodriguez, 18, of Allentown was taken into custody.Following the initial arrests, the Allentown Police Department obtained cellphone video of the assault which led to the identification of five additional individuals, two adults and three juveniles.The two adults, Brian Pearsall of Whitehall, and Isaiah Alacron of Allentown, both 18, were arrested on Thursday. Two additional juveniles were taken into custody on Friday.A warrant for a third juvenile remains open.
