A total of five defendants in pending criminal cases entered guilty pleas on Monday in Carbon County court.

Judge Steven R. Serfass accepted the pleas from the following:Samuel J. Heydt, 39, of Jim Thorpe, entered pleas in two pending cases.He pleaded to one count of criminal trespass, as a felony 2, for an incident on June 30 filed by Jim Thorpe police. Police found him sleeping in an apartment in the 500 block ofCenter Street, which was unoccupied at the time. He was not permitted to be there.He also pleaded to one count of driving under the influence for an incident on June 12 at Second and Fern streets filed by Jim Thorpe police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Heydt is currently an inmate in the county prison. Sentencing was deferred because Heydt needs a drug and alcohol evaluation for the DUI charge.Andrew Lee Alvarez, 29, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count each of resisting arrest and institutional vandalism. He was arrested by Lehighton police on Aug. 21 in the100 block of South First Street. Police responded to a reported altercation and found Alvarez involved in a dispute. After taking him into custody he resisted and also kicked the door of a police cruiser, causing damages.Serfass deferred sentencing so Alvarez could apply for placement in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program - house arrest.Trevor Clarence Hartranft, 38, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of criminal mischief. He was charged by Lehighton police for an incident on Dec. 28, 2015,in the 300 block of South Ninth Street, where he damaged a garage door on the property. Charges of burglary and related counts were dropped in a plea bargain.Serfass placed him on probation for six months and ordered he render 25 hours of community service.He is currently an inmate in the county prison on a probation violation petition.Christopher Michael Barachie, 35, of Nesquehoning, pleaded to one count of persistent disorderly conduct. He was arrested on June 12, 2015, by Mahoning Township police for an incident in the area of100 Jamestown Street. A charge of simple assault was dropped in a plea bargain.He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to render 25 hours of community service and have no contact with Eschbach.Franklin Roy Piro, 18, of Allentown, pleaded to one count each of receiving stolen property and the summary offense of harassment. He was arrested on April 30 by state police at Lehighton.On the receiving count Serfass sentenced him to time-served, 19 days to 18 months in prison, and ordered him to attend and complete anger management counseling, get a mental health evaluation and follow any recommendations for treatment, make restitution of $400 to Martinez and render 75 hours of community service.On the harassment charge he was fined $300.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee.
