Lehigh University unveils plan for new science center

BETHLEHEM (AP) - Lehigh University officials have unveiled plans for a major expansion that would add up to an additional 1,800 students at the eastern Pennsylvania school.

The expansion would also see the creation of a new College of Health as well as the construction of a new science and research center on Lehigh's campus in Bethlehem.President John Simon said the ambitious plan, dubbed Path to Prominence, will allow for Lehigh to be counted among the best in higher education for years to come.Over a seven-year period, Lehigh would add a total of 1,000 more undergraduates and 500 to 800 full-time graduate students.By expanding enrollment, university officials hope to attract more students across the country.Provost Pat Farrell says Lehigh also intends to increase its financial aid and scholarship programs.
