A Palmerton day care is celebrating Halloween in style, going above and beyond with decorations and a parade.

Watch Me Grow Day Care Center has participated in the Chamber of Commerce's annual Scarecrow Time event since its inception, but this year, the instructors and children expanded to fill their window with a full Halloween display."Usually, we just put a single scarecrow up front, and we use that screaming baby face, because it represents that whole day care thing. But this year, we decided to do the whole window, and represent everybody in the day care," preschool teacher Pam Storm said.This year's display features four scarecrows, including two teachers and two students."We have one at the easel there, teaching, along with some books. And then we have another teacher feeding an infant scarecrow, and an older school-age scarecrow," Storm said. "So, that way we're representing all the children, because we care for ages 6 weeks to 12 years old."While the instructors handled most of the decorating efforts, the kids were able to pitch in when it came to assembling the setup."We used newspaper and stuffed it in," kindergarten student Calianna Smale said."They crumbled up the paper and stuffed it in the shirts and pants, and the teachers actually put them together," Storm said.Lisa Anthony, who co-owns the day care with her mother, Judy Schwartz, was thrilled with the display, as well as Storm's ability to engage the kids with seasonal activities."I thought it was great. She always has good ideas. We're never at a loss for ideas for the window. It keeps them busy and excited about the holiday."Decorating and Halloween-themed pastimes will continue throughout the following two weeks. On Friday,the children will participate in a costume parade through the borough park, in addition to some stops at local businesses. Following the parade, the day care will have a party with Halloween games, songs and treats."I'm going to bring carrots!" Smale said, with Storm commending her on selecting a healthy snack.But of course, it would not be a Halloween celebration without the most important element of all."And I'm bringing candy!" kindergarten student Connor Waltrick said.
