Police called 3 times for Tamaqua man

Tamaqua Police were called out for three incidents on Oct. 16 involving an Elm Street man.

During one of the incidents, Joseph W. Smith Sr., 58, of East Elm Street, Tamaqua, struck the officer.Officers were first called to Smith's home at 2:55 a.m., where they broke up an argument between Smith and a younger man. Both men received warnings.At 3:22 a.m., officers were called back to the house, where both men were again involved in an argument.Smith appeared to be highly intoxicated and didn't cooperate with police this time.He pushed and struck an officer, resulting in his being handcuffed and transported to the police station. After receiving a citation for disorderly conduct, Smith was transported to a motel in Rush Township.Officers were called to the home again at 6:23 p.m. for a reported disturbance and assault. They met with a woman this time, who said Smith shoved and choked her during an argument. He then left the home. Marks were visible on the victim's neck.Smith was cited for simple assault and harassment.
