A Luzerne County man entered guilty pleas in four pending cases on Tuesday in Carbon County court.

Alvin David Sheets, 67, of Edwardsville, and formerly of Lehighton, pleaded to two counts each of simple assault and possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of false reports.Sheets was arrested on Jan. 22 at the Walmart store in Mahoning Township, where he assaulted a man. Sheets was bothering two female customers at the store  when another customer tried to intervene. He punched the man in the face. The other assault occurred on May 26, 2015, involvinganother man as the victim and charges filed by state police at Lehighton.The two drug charges stem from incidents on April 10 and the Walmart assault incident. The false reports was filed by Lehighton police for an incident on Dec. 2, 2015, when Sheets reported his car stolen when it wasn’t.Sheets said his conduct was due in part to a drug habit and not taking his medications for a mental health issue stemming from his service in the military during the Vietnam War.He told Judge Joseph J. Matika, “I’m getting too old for this.” He added that since he has been in the county prison, he has been receiving his medication and now has a “clear head” and promised to keep taking the medications.Matika sentenced him to a total of two to 12 months in prison followed by one year of probation. He was given credit for 63 days already served and paroled.He was also ordered to render 50 hours of community service, get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole. On the two drug counts he was fined a total of $400.
