Police ID one victim in fatal motorcycle wreck

Two people have died as a result of a motorcycle crash in Monroe County, according to authorities.

The crash occurred around 12:15 p.m. Wednesday on Toll Road near Effort. Police said the motorcycle struck the rear of a Jeep that had stopped behind a school bus that was unloading students.

State Police at Fern Ridge identified one of the victims as 22-year-old Daniel Gregory Weir of Effort, who was operating the motorcycle. Police are withholding the name of his passenger pending notification of next of kin.

Weir was pronounced dead at the scene. His female passenger was injured and transported to Pocono Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead, the Monroe County Coroner said. Police said that neither victim was wearing a motorcycle helmet.

Speed was a "causal factor" in the crash, according to state police. No other injuries were reported in the crash. The bus was not damaged.
