October 19, 2001 - Earl Kunkel carries 22 times for 154 yards and two touchdowns to help Jim Thorpe gain a 33-20 victory over visiting Cardinal Brennan. Kunkel reaches the end zone on runs of 8 and 2 yards. The Olympians defense comes up with three interceptions, two by Jonathan Young and one returned 53 yards for a score by Jason Figura. Thorpe, coached by Mark Rosenberger, also receives a 13-yard TD pass from Dan Flizack to Walter Johnson, and an 11-yard scoring run from Justin Young.
