Palmerton parade brings out best in floats

While Palmerton seemed under attack by superheroes Sunday, it was an ocean-themed large float that took home top honors during the town's annual Halloween parade.

Judges Louise Koons, Connie Reinhart and Tammy Recker were left impressed by the many creative displays."I thought it was a great parade," Reinhart said. "The big floats were just awesome, and to be a part of this was really fun."The Palmerton Booster Club 110-pound cheering team won the judges choice overall outstanding large float honor with its "Bombers of the Deep Blue" theme.Judges' choice for outstanding Palmerton Sports Group large floats went to the cheerleading squad of the Palmerton Booster Club 110-pound team with "Bombers of the Deep Blue"; the Palmerton Booster Club 90-pound cheering "Rocking the Jailhouse"; and the Palmerton Booster Club flag football "Find the Hero in You."S.S. Palmer Parkside students received the judges' choice award for an outstanding non-sports float. The students' theme was "Knowledge is our Superpower."First place in the large floats category went to Palmerton Booster Club's 130-pound cheering squad with its "Going the Distance" theme, followed by Cub Pack 41 "Adventure in Scouting," Palmerton Booster Club 130-pound football team "Hunting the Competition," and Palmerton Booster Club flag cheering squad with "Cheering Under the Sea."Honorable mention went to Palmerton Youth Wrestling's "Peace, Love and Wrestling," Towamensing Soccer Club's "The Kicking Dead," Cub Pack 209's "Building America's Future," Palmerton Booster Club 90-pound football team's "Carving up the Competition," Palmerton Booster Club 110-pound football team's "Doing the Football Shuffle," Boyers Collectables' "The Small Boys of our Farm," and Halls of Horror's "Mad Max."Judges' choice for overall outstanding small float was Senior Girl Scout Troop 3583 and its "Girl Scouting Is Out of This World" theme.First place in small floats went to Palmerton Girl Scout Troop 301's "We Are Super Scout Sister," followed by Tumble With Denise "20 Years of Flipping Fun," and Palmerton Brownie Troop 348's "Alice in Wonderland."Honorable mention in small floats went to Girl Scout Troop 3259 and "Take Me Back to the Candy Land," and Zinc City Motorcycle Club's "The Reaper's Race."First place for best appearing costumed group went to Girl Scout Troop 3248 "Girl Scouts Have a Hopping Good Time," followed by Girl Scout Troop 33416 "We Are All Wound Up About Girl Scouts," and Brownie Troop 3862 "Girl Scouts Are on the Right Track."Honorable mention went to Girl Scout Troop 3127 and 3580 "Aren't We The Cutest Emojis," and Palmerton Family Fitness Center's "Meet Our Circus."The Palmerton High School cheerleaders and junior varsity cheerleaders were first and second respectively in the noncostumed group results.In the automotive category, Brownie Troop 3590 took home first prize for its "We Are Brownie Superheroes" theme. The Rendano family's "Batmobile" and Pacemakers Association's "The Bone Yard" received honorable mention.
