STEP-Up Tamaqua is sponsoring a "Night of Hope" as part of its monthly meeting on Monday, Oct. 17.
From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., a deputy from the Schuylkill County Sheriff's Office will be on hand to oversee a Drug Take Back campaign. Anyone with outdated or unused drugs is welcome to bring those items to Trinity United Church of Christ, 22 Lafayette St., Tamaqua, for proper, safe disposal.At 7 p.m., guest speaker Mike Machay, a recovering addict, will talk about his addiction's effect on his family and the recovery process. Machay is an active member of Safer Streets for Tamaqua's Little Feet.Layne Hinderliter and Wayne Smith, representatives of the HOPE Initiative of Faith Church, Orwigsburg, will also speak about their groups' efforts to provide support for families and loved ones of addicts.The meeting will be held in Trinity's Founders Hall, located at the lower level, rear, of the church.
