Mary Herbig of Tamaqua celebrated her 91st birthday on Oct. 1 with friends.

Born Mary Firman in 1925, she was raised in Girardville until she met the love of her life, Kenneth Herbig. Married in 1948, Kenneth and Mary celebrated their 58th anniversary before his death in 2006.Ken and Mary lived on Locust Lake Drive until moving to the Majestic House Apartments. They were one of the original residents to occupy the building, where she still lives.Mary stays active and enjoys dining out with friends, attending the Tamaqua Senior Citizens Center and taking regular day trips to area casinos.
