Francis X. Koomar was a cornerstone in the Nesquehoning community for just under 100 years.

He served as a past postmaster in the borough post office and was the owner of Koomar Insurance Agency for 74 years until he retired in 2010."He helped everyone," Patty Graham, a former employee of Koomar's, said recently. "He was such a generous, loving man."But on Dec. 30, 2015, at the age of 99, Koomar passed away, leaving behind a corner lot home along West Catawissa Street that was destined to continue his legacy.In late August, Care Net of Carbon County, a nonprofit organization that aims to provide community support to those facing pregnancy, purchased Koomar's home and will honor his memory as it is transformed into a second location for their services."He would have been thrilled to know that his home was being used in such a good way," Graham said. "I think this is a blessing."Graham will join Suzi DeMara, director of Care Net, and the ministry of volunteers who provide the services to those in need in their new venture in Nesquehoning."Our mission is to help everyone and that's what Frank would have wanted," she said. He loved his home and supported good causes, including Care Net."
