Marian students attend Free Enterprise Week

Eight Marian Catholic High School students attended the Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week 2016 this past summer on the campuses of Lycoming College and the Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport.

Students were able to select any one of the five weeklong sessions offered at the two campuses. Admission to the program is based on teacher/counselor recommendations and a review by the PFEW staff.Students are able to experience a bit of college life as they are housed in campus dorms.During the week, groups of students are placed into "companies" and simulate the actual operation of their own businesses for the equivalent of three years.Volunteers from the business community serve as advisers. They may make suggestions, but all decisions are left up to the students.World-class speakers present seminars and discussions on business-related topics, while motivational speakers focus on ways to overcome obstacles and to be your best self.Free Enterprise Week is supported by seven manufacturers' associations, more than 100 chambers of commerce and more than 800 Pennsylvania companies.Funded, taught and staffed totally by the business community, the program is in its 37th year.
