Lansford Borough officials say they are getting closer to getting a prominent eyesore demolished.

The former Lansford Elks Club, which hasn't been occupied since the 1980s, could come down before the end of the year.Carbon County has earmarked more than $100,000 to pay to take down the building and dump the debris.On Thursday, borough council passed a motion signaling it wants to go ahead with the project.The borough's engineer also wrote a letter to the county commissioners asking them to expedite the bidding process for the property."Due to the current condition of the structure, we feel the removal and demolition of the structure needs to occur before the onset of winter," Eric Snyder of Keystone Consulting Engineers wrote.Supervisor Joseph Butrie said that the project had been held up while a necessary environmental study was performed. But now they expect that the project will be bid in the near future."That's what was holding up demolition on the building, we needed the studies to be done before the money could be released to have this building demolished," he said.
