Writers' workshop

The Black Diamond Writers' Network has two special events planned this month.First up is a Writers Helping Writers workshop on Saturdayat the Tamaqua Public Library. Members will review and provide honest feedback to the works of aspiring writers. Anyone who would like to have a review should bring 15 copies of one page of a work in progress. No previously published works will be allowed.Hours will be from 10 a.m. to noon. The library is located at 30 S. Railroad St., Tamaqua.BDWN will also host an authors panel at the Tamaqua Community Art Center onOct. 22. Published authors will provide information on the process of publishing. There will be a book signing and refreshments.Hours will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The art center is located at 125 Pine St., Tamaqua.Both events are free and open to the public.Band festivalThe 20th annual Land of the Running Water Marching Band Adjudication, hosted by the Tamaqua Area Raider Marching Band, will be heldSaturday at the Tamaqua High School Sports Stadium. This year's event will feature participating marching bands hailing from the Annville-Cleona, Exeter Township, Mahanoy Area, Panther Valley, Pottsville Area, Southern Lehigh, Tri Valley and Wilson high schools.Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the competition begins at 7 p.m.Clothing driveSTEP-Up Tamaqua is conducting a clothing drive of gently used business attire, which will be used to help people get back on their feet and contribute to the community.Clothing may be dropped off at the Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce office, 37 W. p.m.Oct. 31.St. Peter's UnionSunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church in Mantzville. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, the youth group will have a bake sale before and after the worship service; the Confirmation class will meet at 10:30 a.m.; Cub and Girl Scouts meet at 6 p.m.Activities for next week include: Monday, church board meets at 6 p.m.; Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., women of St. Peter's meet at 7 p.m.; Thursday, apple dumpling pickup from noon to 5 p.m., cherub choir meets at 6:30 p.m., junior choir practices at 7 p.m., senior choir rehearsal is at 7:30 p.m.Zion LewistownPastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Church of the Lewistown Valley.
