Nesquehoning holds recycling event

Nesquehoning is holding a free electronics recycling event from 2-5 p.m. Oct. 20.

The event, operated by Responsible Recycling Services, will take place at the borough's recycling bins, located along Locust Street.Items that will be accepted free of charge include: desktop and laptop computers, keyboards and mice, printers, fax machines, cables and cords, telephones and cellphones, calculators and adding machines, UPS battery backups and laptop batteries, toner and ink cartridges, audio visual equipment, filing cabinets, DVD players and VCRs, gaming systems, string Christmas lights, microwaves and small appliances, metal items, exercise equipment, car batteries (sealed lead acid), bed frames, rain spouting and filing cabinets. Batteries must be removed from cellphones before recycling.Additional items can be recycled but include a fee.They are: washers, dryers, dishwashers and stoves (ranges), $20; televisions under 40 inches, $35; wooden cabinet, projection, big-screen televisions, $55; tube-type CRT monitors, $15; LCD monitors, $8; air conditioners, $25; dehumidifiers, $25; refrigerators, $30; floor copiers, $20; console stereos (in cabinet), $35; and floor freezers, $30. Televisions must be complete. No broken TVs will be accepted.Destruction services are also available for a fee. These include off-site hard drive destruction, $10 per drive; and off-site document destruction, $10 per standard paper size box. Both includes a certificate of destruction.If recycling an item that has a fee, only cash and checks accepted.Checks should be made payable to Responsible Recycling Services or RRS.
