Schuylkill crashes

• State police at Frackville said a hit-and-run occurred at 10:35 p.m. on Saturday along Route 924, in Gilberton.

Troopers said Kenneth M. Kessler, 61, of Girardville, was driving northbound Route 924 and exiting at the Gilberton off ramp along the east berm. He was negotiating a right hand curve on the ramp as another vehicle approached him traveling in the wrong direction on the ramp.Kessler swerved to the right but the oncoming vehicle sideswiped his vehicle. He lost control and his 2003 Hyundai Sonata, crossed the concrete median and struck an embankment along the ramp. The other driver fled the scene.• A driver was cited in a crash that occurred at 1:50 a.m. Saturday along Schwartz Valley Road in Wayne Township, Schuylkill County.State police at Schuylkill Haven said James F. Dietz Jr., 21, of Schuylkill Haven, was driving a 2003 Nissan 350Z at a high rate of speed westbound while he crested a small grade.The Nissan became airborne, began to spin and traveled up an embankment for about 300 feet, crashing into a small trailer and sport utility vehicle parked about 35 feet from the road.The impact pushed the trailer and SUV into a main support beam of a barn at 618 Schwartz Valley Road.The Nissan then spun clockwise nearly 180-degrees, sliding back out onto the westbound lane where it came to rest facing northeast.Dietz, who was not wearing a seat belt, and his passenger, Victoria M. Cannizzaro, 19, of Pottsville, sustained minor injuries but did not require immediate medical attention. Troopers cited Dietz for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.
