State police at Lehighton investigated a two-vehicle crash at 8:52 a.m. on Saturday along Route 443, near Mill Road, in Mahoning Township, Carbon County.

Troopers said Donald W. Smale, 20, of Summit Hill, was driving a 2000 Ford Focus eastbound and Nathan P. Mack, 23, also of Summit Hill, was driving a 2010 Mazda 3 westbound.As Smale approached the area of Mill Road he traveled off the right side to avoid striking an oncoming vehicle in his lane of travel. As he drove back onto the eastbound lane, he lost control, traveled into the westbound lane and struck Mack's vehicle.Both drivers sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene by Mahoning Valley ambulance personnel. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. Mahoning Valley Fire Company volunteers assisted at the scene.Troopers cited Smale for the crash.
