p.m.Oct. 19 at the Municipal Building, 490 Ore St. Bowmanstown. The meeting will be to discuss the 2017 budget and for any other general purposes.Worship serviceA nondenominational ecumenical service will be held to pray for a deepening of respect for all life. Sacred Heart Church, Third Street and Lafayette Avenue, Palmerton will host the service at 11 a.m. Friday. Sacred Scripture will a brief reflection offered by local clergy and laity will be offered for the unborn, the poor and victims of violence, the immigrants and homeless, and the physically disabled and elderly. Following the service, a luncheon will be at Bert's on Delaware Ave. for $13 a person. All are welcome. A guest speaker will share thoughts on the day's theme of respect for all human life. The service is co-sponsored by Sacred Heart's Pro-Life and the Knights of Columbus.Halloween paradeThe 25th annual Halloween parade will be held in the Borough of Palmerton on Sunday. Formation will begin around 2:30 p.m. and the parade will start at 4 p.m. The parade will organize at Seventh Street and Delaware Avenue in the area of the ball field. The parade will go up Seventh Street to Lafayette Avenue, turn left on Lafayette Avenue to Second Street, turn left on Second Street to Franklin Avenue continuing to Third Street. They will then turn right to Delaware Avenue, turn left and going back to Seventh Street, where it will disband.As in years past there has been concern for children darting in the street for candy. For their safety, the Halloween committee has decided that they will not allow candy to be thrown from moving vehicles in the parade. Participants are asked to have walkers going along the curb during the parade to hand out candy to the children. This decision is not made to lessen fun for the spectators, however the harm of even one child would be devastating.Class of 1948Palmerton Area High School Class of 1948 will be having their quarterly get-together at Bert's Steak House, Delaware Ave., Palmerton at noon Oct. 20. No reservations are needed. Spouses or companions are welcome. The cost is $8. Items include bacon, sausage, ham, eggs to order, potatoes and more.Wing, taco and clam night specials are every Wednesday. Dinner is served every Friday from 4-8 p.m.Trick-or-treatingPalmerton's annual trick-or-treat date will be from 6-8

p.m.Oct. 29. Residents wishing to participate in this event are asked to have their porch lights on during those hours. Parents are asked to keep a careful watch of their children. Drivers are also urged to keep watch for children crossing the street.While out trick-or-treating, be sure to stop at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave. for treats and fun.
