A Jim Thorpe man has been cited by Tamaqua Police for an incident at Boyer's Food Market on June 19.
A 24-year-old Tamaqua woman was checking out at 2:50 p.m. that day when she placed her Samsung Galaxy S7 cellphone on the counter as she was paying for her items. She left without the phone, but realized it was missing a short time later. She went back to the store, but the phone was missing.A review of video surveillance footage revealed the man who was standing in line behind the victim picked up the phone and left the store with it in his possession.Christman told police he didn't steal the phone, just picked it up with "the intention of returning it to its owner" although he never did contact her. The phone had been wiped clean of all contacts and photos and the tempered glass screen, cellphone case and sim card were missing. Christman blamed his son for the missing items and the data wipe.He was charged with theft of mislaid property.
