Events planned for Walnutport Canal Festival

The Walnutport Canal Association is hosting a weekend full of eventsSaturday and Sunday for the Walnutport Canal Festival.

The festivities will begin with the Towpath Trot 6K Run, Fun Run and Walk, and Kayak Race on Saturday,followed by the festival the next day.Registration for the Towpath Trot and Fun Run will begin at 8 a.m. in the pavilion. The cost for the Towpath Trot is$25 the day of the event. The Fun Run and Walk is for children 13 years old and younger and will set off at 9 a.m. The Trot will start at 9:30 a.m.Prefer boating? Try the Kayak Race. It's a first for the canal association.The quarter-mile race will take place in the Walnutport canal. Kayakers must provide their own kayak, paddle and life jacket.Registration will open at 1 p.m. The fee is $20 and the first place prize is $100. The race is limited to 25 people, and will begin at 1:30 p.m.Then on Sunday,the public is welcome to come and enjoy the Walnutport Canal Festival from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free and so is the entertainment.Music will be provided by: Big Valley Blue Grass Band, Matthew Dodd, The Jolly Tars and Al Grout.There will also be a magician and juggler, food vendors, crafters, basket raffle, Kids' Corral Area with a Bounce House and straw maze and a hayride. The hayride is free for children 12 years old and younger.
