West Penn Township

West Penn Township plans to spend over $145,000 for a new dump truck for its road crew department.

By a unanimous vote, the township's board of supervisors agreed on Monday to purchase a 2016 freightliner in the amount of $145,137.The board also agreed to speak with Mauch Chunk Trust Company to discuss the financial terms for the purchase.Crime watch updateAlso on Monday, Prudenti said the township's initial Crime Watch meeting last month proved to be a success.Prudenti said 25 people attended, including township police Chief Brian Johnson, whom he thanked "immensely."Johnson acknowledged that the meeting was productive."It went well, very well," Johnson said.The next Crime Watch meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 12.OtherIn other action, supervisors:• Announced the township received a Firemen's relief tax in the amount of $31,013 for firefighter safety, which it will deposit and later issue a check to the West Penn Fire Company No. 1.• Ratified the purchase of a Crown Victoria from East Penn Township for $2,310.• Agreed to buy a truck bed for the township's pickup for $2,000.• Agreed to adopt a burning ordinance.• Approved the On Demand energy renewal with Entrust Energy at the rate of 0.0736 for 36 months.• Announced trick-or-treat night will be from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 29 in the township.• Approved the Andreas Halloween parade to be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 19, with the rain date 7 p.m. Oct. 20.
