Tamaqua woman charged with stealing drugs from VA Hospital

The U.S. Department of Justice has charged a Tamaqua woman with stealing drugs from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Wilkes-Barre.

Janice M. Matrician, 50, a nurse employed by the hospital, is accused of obtaining narcotics by fraud or misrepresentation.U.S. Attorney Bruce D. Brandler, Middle District of Pennsylvania, alleges that Matrician accessed the hospital's computerized, automated, distribution system on May 22, 2015, to report that certain drugs had been disposed of, when, in fact, she kept the drugs for her own personal use.The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Police and will be prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd K. Hinkley.The maximum penalty that Matrician faces is four years in prison, followed by supervised release and a $25,000 fine.
